They are also substantially better for the environment than meat based proteins.
We run around outside once and awhile with a really big net...
We get our crickets from Entomo Farms in Ontario, Canada as a trusted supplier of high quality crickets.
The crickets at Entomo Farms are free range. The crickets are free to hop through their cricket condos (hollowed out structures), outside of the condos, and to whichever feed stations they prefer.
Harvesting the crickets only occurs near the end of their life cycle. Crickets naturally live about 6 weeks.
75 to 95% of BiTE Bar ingredients are organic. See the individual product pages for details on which ingredients are organic. In an ideal world, we would have a 100% organic product, but as a small business with limited bulk sourcing capabilities, we have to find a balance with ingredients used and the resulting price to the customer.
There are 20-30 crickets in one bar. Don’t worry, crickets in our bars are finely ground into a smooth powder.
Our cricket protein powder blend mix well if combined with other ingredients in a smoothie. If our blends are mixed only with water, some settlement might occur. This is because we pride ourselves on using natural ingredients so we limit usage of stabilizing agents in our blends compared to other protein powders on the market.
For the stabilizing agent, we use organic acacia gum, which is made from the sap of a tree.
Allergies and Dietary Restrictions
> Our Peanut Better Bars contain peanuts.
> Chocolate Chirp and Jiminy Ginger contain almonds and peanut butter.
> People with Shellfish allergies may be allergic to crickets.
It’s subjective, and dependant on the individual. We have had vegetarians eat our products, and other vegetarians who don’t.
Yup! As long as your child doesn’t have specific allergies or conditions such as those listed above. We use real food ingredients so our product offerings are suitable for all ages.
